We offer two different styles of worship services at St.
Luke:
8 a.m. Chapel Service – every Sunday
We offer the chapel service, a shortened
version of the liturgical service. It includes Biblical readings, a
sermon, and Holy Communion. This service is contemplative in atmosphere
and has an intimate feel to it.
It is held in our chapel and usually lasts for about 1 hour.
10:30 a.m. Worship Service – every Sunday
(moves to 9:30 during Summer)
This worship follows the traditional Lutheran liturgy and
offers Holy Communion every week. Organ music and the choir lead us in
singing God’s praise. Occasionally special musical offerings by bell
choirs, children’s choirs, or soloists are added to the service.
This service offers Children’s Praise Time. After the second Bible
reading, children age 3 through grade 3 are invited to go to the chapel,
where they hear about the gospel in ways geared towards their age level.
They return to the sanctuary during the sharing of the peace.
Usually, this service lasts about 1-¼ hours.
During Summer (mid-June through Labor Day) only one
worship service is offered at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School or Children's
Praise are not offered during the summer.
"Of the Land and Seasons" Service
Once a quarter, we celebrate a special service called “Of
the Land and Seasons”. Its liturgy is set to traditional Appalachian folk
tunes, and we are accompanied by a piano, mandolin, and guitar ensemble.
This service highlights our connection to the land and to God’s good
creation. We schedule it close to the official change of season according
to the calendar. Feel free to call the church office (323-7309) to inquire
about the next scheduled “Of the Land and Seasons” service.
Sunday School – every Sunday at 9:15 a.m.
(no classes during Summer)
Sunday School for all ages focuses on the Bible and its
meaning for everyday life. Three adult courses are also offered throughout the learning year.
Occasional Classes
Occasional classes on the Bible, Lutheran teaching, and
faith-life in today's world are offered Wednesday Nights. Check out our
calendar for classes.
Music
An adult choir, two children's choirs and three handbell choirs
enrich our worship. Instrumental solos and ensembles are a regular feature
of worship. The outstanding Carlson organ graces our music program.
